I gave up

As im writing this, I have been thinking, should i write this post or not. I have often thinking back on the playing time that I had on this server, the good times and the frustrating times. I played mostly my Necro, as I have always had fun playing a necro, especially in PvE, but in RvR it was meh. I started playing on Lancelot Server oct 2001, and it was a blast for 6-7 years. I was single and young back then, 22 years when the game came out.

Fast forward to today, im 45 with wife and kids. My playtime is wastly reduced to about 10 hours/week(been that for the last 15 years). Due to lack of time I found myself very lackluster in RvR because the time I was playing I didnt had the time to fund me a RvR items set. I ran solo for the most of the time with the zerg, since i was embarassed with my gear, and also because i had to leave the computer from time to time, when kids called ect.

Farming drops > Salvage > craft trinkets ect > profit > Then buy items farmed by other players have been my goto on servers in the past for my RvR suit. But with severely reduced drops, i found me farming the same town with 10'ish named mobs, together with many other players that was also farming. Spending lot of time farming, for low droprates/profit killed my fun as a casual player, because i also wanted to participate in realm pvp, running with the zerg. and Realm Pve(with those raids i participated in I wasent lucky on the drops).

Being unable to buy decent gear, because of low droprate/salvage, killed the fun for me as a casual player, i dont mind dying but being 2 hit by a caster often was demoralizing. :|

edit: I havent been playing for the past 8-9 months +, so i dont know if there have been changes to the server in the meantime.

Picard the Necro.

Picard the Necro.

If you went on alot of raids you would have gotten the currency you needed to buy said items and if you didnt go on specific raids, you could buy other items from other raids you had been on to put for sale to fund your RvR suit.

I think you are making it sound a little bit harder than it really is as its very easy to get RvR ready on this server and if you were apart of an alliance then im sure they would help you too.

Re: I gave up

10 hours a week is a pretty good amount of play time. Hard to even call that casual. My friends and I are lucky to get 2-3 hours a week of game time and are still able to be plenty successful in RvR on this server.

Re: I gave up

This is something that should be addressed for season 3 it's silly to have to rely on raids to effectively make money. farming is definitely needed and it killed a big part of the game for me and my friends when we coulsnt here on eden we should be able to sit and camp mobs for salvage or alchemy drops in an effective manor together and chit chat that part of the game was huge we shouldn't be relying on scheduled raids etc. we should be able to go out solo or with a few friends and farm up some good coin to fund our characters. For isntance Orcs in aldland and pygmys in lyonesse and wights in barrows in alb trees in CF and fins in CF wights in cm in hib. It would be very beneficial to make things like this viable my group missed this soo very much honestly we all seen it as a way to play the game and relax and socialize. Please consider bringing this to this amazing server.

Re: I gave up

You gave up after giving up?

Raids give you special raid currency to buy boss loot after you have accquired enough. There´s a also a quest which gives some gold, a full level before lvl 50 and you need it (once) to unlock the merchant. (can be done also by doing some bounty quest in NF)

Raids won´t give that much money. Overtime maybe, if you sell some items to other players.

RvR BGs including killtasks and taking objectives generate a good amount of money income. Some people haven´t touched nearly any PvE and still have dozens of platins just from rvring.

Mob grinding is possible, but like you´ve seen probably only effective at some spots.

There are also custom made dungeons which can drop highend rog items.. which can sell for dozens of platins as well.

If you have a limited time, try to do what you like. If you prefer RvRing... then just join it. You don´t need perfect gear for Zerg PvP. You can farm money from it and if you join some raids between you get the currency needed for your items. Don´t hope for winning items per roll. that´s nonsense. ^^

Re: I gave up

I feel Picard has made some very valuable points about the status of farming on Eden. A vast amount of us playing are from launch and are now, old and boring, but mostly strapped for time. That being said, something I always held dear about Camelot was the ability to hop on a character alone and just mindlessly kill mobs for an hour or two and feel accomplished as I was moving towards my goals at a adequate rate. Eden, doesn't office this paradise for the casuals.

NOW, before you say any level 50 mob drops ROG. Yes, that is correct, that being said the drop rate is STAGGERINGLY worse than places such as barrows etc. At end game there is essentially 1 place to farm efficiently as a solo and that is barrows, so you are always fighting for location. Pygmys drop is absolutely slaughtered, and TOA is ONLY touchable in groups, you can do some things as a duo, but the drop is less that 5 glass per mob, and there is only a few mobs per zone so again just doesn't make sense unless you just do it with a group / raid.

This server really has everything and the DEVs are doing so much to help it grow and change for the better, this though is something that I feel detours the casuals and even the intense gamers that used to only play DAoC (myself) but want to slow grind it now, alone, or with a couple friends and just chat, reminisce, re-live the good times, and for once ; slow down time a bit.

The farming issue was addressed before season 1 launched, but the focus has remained relying on named mobs for max efficiency. This has lead to people camping those spots pretty hard. I would love to see a more even distribution of drops across the board, but I don't think it's going to happen. IMO, the S.I. and ToA zones are absolutely wasted due to lack of farming spots. Regardless, ONCE you figure out where to farm, as a solo, you can make good ca$h, but the problem is that unless somebody shows you, you have to waste a lot of time figuring it out for yourself, and when you do, you have a lot of competition.

As a casual player, it's pretty important to find a guild / alliance that has folks with more time to play so they can help you out, which they surely will. I have more time on my hands these days, and I spent some of it helping kit out my friends, and I'm surely not alone in this regard.

Re: I gave up

Unfortunately Eden is primarily a RvR focused Server, even more so now with the BG Twink nerf, a lot of PvE items aren't needed/worth farming. DF will be more challenging to farm with it open to all realms, likely will be stealther's paradise. I bought most of my raid currency later in S2 with bounty points by playing BG toons, but that won't really be an option going forward, so you might have to struggle bus through the daily NF quests to get currency.

I would like to see possibly an increase in currency drop rates on PvE mobs in the respective zone, would at least give the PvErs something more to do, and those who have money buy items. I understand not everyone can always make raids with limited play time.
