Is anything EPIC anymore?

This is not complaint or suggestion, just an observation. I think the Eden team has done an amazing job and they are appreciated for their hard work and innovation. Thank you all for what you do.

I was in DAoC on day 1 and have played off and on ever since. In the early days a relic or a dragon was a pretty big deal. Now these things are so routine as to be an afk encounter. I think this is a big loss to fun and immersion. Have you noticed the Relic General title is given out at only 50. Some guys do that much in 2 weeks. Dragons are dead in literally seconds.

People like to be successful and to feel mighty. It might not be well received to make these things harder. But there is a difference between QoL improvements and making everything EZ mode. People with more knowledge and experience in the game than me can debate if changes could be beneficial. As I said, just an observation.

Re: Is anything EPIC anymore?

This has more to do with time rather than anything else. Everything is harder when the game is new. In the very early days of DAoC we didn't even have spellcrafting. Just had to temp with whatever items you could find. Temps were close to half the utility they are now, which is a significant difference. Not to mention the much weaker or limited support/buff spells. I remember getting over 100+ hibs together to raid the dragon, only to get completely wiped out. Simply because we couldn't take a hit in blue/green gear and accessories. His AoE would wipe 30% the raid in 1 shot. Now I can cap nearly everything, increase my stat caps on top of that, and buff my own resists.

It's just not the same game anymore. So when that happens, normally difficult mobs/raids/relic takes became much easier. The problem is scaling these fights properly isn't easy. They were tuned a specific way and changing that to fit each fight at a level of difficulty needed is a tall order. I remember in S1 when Eden buffed the relic guards and they were wiping out BG's with 100+. Didn't take them long to tone them back down after all the crying about it lol.

I think one of the main things is that Eden doesn't want to make raids limited to massive BG's. Needing 75+ people to do a raid isn't always easy so if you can manage with 3-4 groups, more people can participate, especially at off hours. Unfortunately one of the worst things about DAoC is the PvE. It's just...bad. It's unintuitive and very simplistic. So most of the focus is on RvR, not PvE. PvE is there to give you something to work toward instead of a free /level 50.

Essentially, two things ruined that feeling of nostalgia difficulty, time and min/maxing.

Re: Is anything EPIC anymore?

I would say it's a philosophy of Eden, and Phoenix before, to not turn the game into a chore. Some people like sinking time into ultimately mundane stuff for a sense of accomplishement. But Eden prioritizes the majority of players rather than the niche in how the overall achievement curves are mapped out. Which I think is a good choice for the long-term health of a community.

And I am saying that as someone who despises PvE, so I might not be the best to judge, but Eden does offer some more involved stuff like KU or Sobekite Eternal for people that like a bit of a challenge, no?`
