Hey everyone,
It’s been a while… like, a *really* long while. For those who remember me, I’m Critolin. I used to play back in the day, and some of the old-school players might recall my name from the classic servers. I’ve been out of the game for over 20 years (yes, you read that right), and lately, I’ve been feeling the itch to dive back in.
I’ve been wondering—is it even worth coming back after all this time? The game has obviously changed a lot, and I’m sure the community and mechanics are completely different from what I remember. The last servers I played on were the Return of the Classic servers, and I have so many fond memories of that era.
So, I’m reaching out to you all for some advice:
**Is it worth returning after such a long break?**
I’d love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, and maybe even reconnect with some familiar faces. Thanks in advance for your help, and hopefully, I’ll see you all in-game soon!
- Critolin
Returning After 20 Years – Is It Worth It?
Re: Returning After 20 Years – Is It Worth It?
Sure.
If you were around when they launched ToA and champ levels, then the game won't be that much different. The community hasn't changed much, though older, and fewer, you can still find people willing to help and run with in RvR. The mechanics haven't really changed much, and since it's a shard and a new season, we're all going to have to learn and adapt to the changes. IMO the biggest change is the fact that pretty much EVERYONE is using commo, discord mainly, and even the battlegroup sized elements are running it in game.snax7382. wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 2:48 pm The game has obviously changed a lot, and I’m sure the community and mechanics are completely different
Eden has made some great changes to the game that I think you'll enjoy, some of which:
- In realm xp quests that can be done for great xp without getting ganked
- Frontier xp quests that offer more xp and bp's if you're willing to get ganked
- BG quests that reward xp, bp's, and even rp's
- Portal stones that allow you to bind and transport yourself or your entire group around the PvE zones
- level fiddy daily quests that reward currency to be used for templating and such
- ability to buy a stone and be dual specced on a toon. That way you can switch between one spec to another on the same toon for say PvE then switch back to your RvR spec.
- gated realm rank, so there will be a slow increase of max allowable realm rank until later in the season when chars will regain their full RR. This helps because we all start at the same footing, rather than trying to fight RR8 and above groups and players with your n00b sub RR5 toons.
While you'll see some things that you're going to want changed, you'll see a lot of stuff that you'll like. Server is pretty stable, has a pretty good population, and affords RvR opportunity at small man, group, and battle group. The solo and stealth game aren't a priority, so if you want to solo, you're going to have to have a lot of patience. If you're a PvE guy, you'll have a lot to do early in the season because everybody will need raids and PvE stuff to template, but the PvE raids will dwindle down as the season goes on, and PvE isn't really the priority compared to RvR.
Finally, everybody is using their phones these days, so forums like this one won't get the participation that the old forums did. The Eden discord channel will be your best bet to get info from the team and the community.
Good luck. See you in the field.

Re: Returning After 20 Years – Is It Worth It?
The BG's are going to be pretty active at the beginning of the season as a LOT of players are going to use them to level their toons. They offer great XP, bounty points, RP's, and RvR action that people love. The action WILL decline over the season, but I ran like 7 different new toons through the BG's mid-season and there was still opportunities for grouping for xp and RvR.
That being said, I don't think you're going to get the fun out of focusing solely on BG's the way you could waaaaay back in the day at launch. Your best bet is probably creating different level toons for the BG's and leaving them there for times when the player count is sparse. Eden does have a few folks that complain about bg twinks, and I read where the staff changed it so now you'll get xp for player kills, which means you're going to have to watch your xp or your twink will level out of the BG you're running.
Lastly, Eden puts level caps on pretty much EVERYTHING that drops or can be farmed, so you can't kit out your lower level toons with RoG level 50 stuff the way you could back in the day. What most people do is use the RoG stuff that drops while you level, and then use the bounty points you collect in the BG's to buy kit for your toons.
TLDR: BG's can be fun, but the population will fluctuate over time, so be prepared for that and adjust as needed.
Re: Returning After 20 Years – Is It Worth It?
That's exactly why I had to quit. Just isn't the same game I remember when you have to constantly listen to people yelling at each other and search through discord convos for info. If I wanted that I'd play a modern game.. just something to think about if you came from old school and don't do any modern gaming. It's not the same experience, at least not for me.Idi wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 11:54 pm
