Is there any way to avoid having our characters deleted every season?

No.
Next season is probably a year away and crafting skills, character RPs and things like titles get transferred into the next season.

No.

How do those things get transferred into next season if the characters themselves are deleted?

Based on my experience from season 2 to season 3, level 50 characters do not get deleted, but they do start over at level 1. RPs are regained once a character reaches level 50 in the new season. Crafting levels are account based and, I believe, that even if you have no level 50 characters going into a new season, you would retain that crafting level once you start a new character.
