Old School Players coming to Eden

Hey all. Quick question if anyone has time to help. 5 of us are returning to DAOC and just wanted to get some idea what would be a good comp. We want something mainly focused on PvE for first chars but that would do "ok" in PvP until we make dedicated chars. Also has crafting been gutted in this version of DAOC or are full templates still an important part of gearing?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Old School Players coming to Eden

Hi,

IMHO there are a few classes that are "set" in each full group.
- Main Healer
(Mend/Aug Healer or Witchcraft WL can heal huge ammounts of dmg. The healer ofc has some useful stuff like demezz, cures and active "healing" RAs but the WL can sustain (much) more pure healing over a long period of time)
- Pac/Mend Healer for CC and support heals
- Skald for utility/chants and support melee/support rupt
- Shaman for buffs, shears, disease, shell, backup heals and also rupt

After that it depends on how you want to play.
Melee train, Caster train, bomb grp etc.
In RvR it also depends if you want to run within the BG/Zerg or if you focus more on 8v8 / 5v5.
For PvE I reccommend at least 1 character that can spec into shield and parry to hold aggro while taking less dmg.
Warrior, Thane or Valkyrie will do the job.

Are you planing on a 5slot grp only or will you fill up the remaining 3 spots?
That of course also may change a good setup.

Almost every class has something to bring to the table.
- Berserker / Savage focus on melee dmg
- Thane can do cast dmg and rupt on long range and has nice dd proc styles
- Valkyrie also has casts/magic (lower range and lower dmg) but can bring some healing to the grp and also has some dd proc styles.
- Bonedancer has nice active RAs (BA, NM, TWF for example) and can put a good portion of rupt on the enemy with acceptable singletarget dmg and has several pets.
- Spiritmaster has nice aoe stat debuffs, can debuff soul resis, demezz and make acceptable singletarget dmg or spec for bomb and has a pet.
- Runemaster is more focused on pure ranged dmg (singletarget and aoe) and brings some utility like elemental resi debuff, bubble, confusion, nearsight etc. depending on the spec.
- Warlock has huge frontload singletarget dmg and can spec for bomb/nearsight or great heals and manaless casts but has less utility than other casters.
- Warrior... hum... not my first or second choice for RvR because other classes have more utility / stuff going on. No aoe dmg, no reliable rupt abilities and less melee dmg than light or hyprid tanks. But great in PvE to hold aggro against mobs with his awesome defense and high hitpoints.
- Shadowblades and Hunters are tbh more viable solo or in pure stealth grps but in regular grps "meh".

These are ofc only roughly explanations for the classes. But you should get the idea.

To your second question... crafting for "endgame" templates is a "must have" to get the best stats.
2 or 3 crafted items are in almost every template.
For leveling up you will find enough stuff to equip your characters "on the run".
The droprate in dungeons is increased and bosses/named mobs have a quite high droprate.
