No beast is needed, the last Eden was running on a server who cost less than 80€, and during our population pick (550+) everything was smooth & faster. (1000 players was easily reachable with this configuration)

There is no need to throw money away, just code optimization !

well, it's still a beast to me ${L_SMILIES_SMILE}$ 32gb ddr3, Xeon 4 cores 3.2ghz, raid ssd, 250mbps!
we used about 10% with 550 players, that's fine.
