I can't speak for other nightshades, and someone's likely to tell me I'm wrong, but I ran my shade on live with 21 CS until like rank 7. Still plenty devastating if you land perf, but you're not overly reliant on it, and with that spec I remember doing some crazy stuff, like toe to toe'ing 2 rank 10...
